Software updates and warranty

LAUNCH restricts software updates by sales territory, so where a tool was bought decides whether it keeps receiving them. After the free update period, renewals run at roughly US$350 a year for 12V car software and US$499 a year for truck and diesel. Warranty terms depend on the model.

Why updates decide a tool’s value

Vehicles change every model year. Updates add coverage for new vehicles and systems, so a diagnostic tool that stops updating gradually covers less of what comes into your workshop.

Territory and grey imports

LAUNCH restricts software updates by sales territory. A unit bought outside its intended territory, often called a grey import, may never receive updates. It can look like a bargain on the day and lose its value over time.

Before you buy any LAUNCH tool, from anyone, ask which territory it is registered to and how updates will be delivered.

What renewals cost

Every LAUNCH tool includes a free update period. After that, updates renew on a subscription:

Approximate annual renewal costs
SoftwareApproximate renewal
12V car softwareAbout US$350 a year
Truck and diesel softwareAbout US$499 a year

Build this into your budget when you compare prices: the cheapest tool to buy is not always the cheapest to own.

Warranty and defects

Warranty terms depend on the model, so ask us for the terms on the exact unit before you order. If an item arrives defective or damaged, we replace it. Returns and refunds policy.
